...for many reasons. Not only is it good to catch up with a friend, but it's also fun to show them around Kandern. Here are a few pictures courtesy of Becky, one of my friends who came to visit in November. Becky captured several unique aspects of Kandern, like the birth house of John Sutter (of Sutters' Mill and the Gold Rush of 1849). This house is on the way to school.
I have yet to visit this museum, which is two doors down from where I live, but I'm determined to visit it while I'm still here!

Another reason that I enjoy having visitors is because it means that I get to go on day trips. While Becky was here we got to go to Bern, Switzerland (approx. 60 miles.) Unfortunately, the day we were in Switzerland it was kind of cold, so why are these guys walking through the fountain? Very curious...
In many European cities you can see life-size chess boards. The gentleman on the right is planinng his next move.
Trying to warm up, we ducked into a store and Becky caught me trying on a cap...thank Becky!
On another day we went to Strasbourg, France (approx. 100 miles). The weather was much more agreeable. I don't have have too much else to say, this town was very photogenic.
