Summer is almost over, I can’t believe it! After an exhausting end to the school year I returned to the United States for a summer of fundraising. Here are some of my summer highlights:
Reconnecting
While in Minnesota for one month, I enjoyed seeing many people. I was able to share in several home groups. I enjoyed sharing the ministry of Black Forest Academy and what I do while working with missionary kids who have learning disabilities.
Making Time for Family
They say that when you return to your home country for fundraising you can get so caught up with meetings and events, that you don’t often give yourself enough time. This summer I made time to spend with my family. I loved spending time with my nieces and nephews. They’re growing up so fast!
Mind-stretching
I left Minnesota in the middle of July to attend the third, and final, level of training through the National Institute for Learning Development. I expected to be pushed to the limits during the two weeks (80 hours of class time). I was not disappointed! I spent a good amount of time and energy trying to wrap my mind around the concepts they were teaching us. The class was an exciting time too! I learned more beneficial ways with which to work with each student I work with. I look forward to returning to the school year when I can implement so much of what I have learned.
Encourage a missionary
There are many ways you can help. Prayer is a mighty way to help. Please let me know if you do pray for me, it is such an encouragement to know when someone is praying for me. Sometimes it gets a little lonely, even in the midst of a crowd. To know that you are taking part of this ministry through prayer is great.
Another way you can encourage me is by writing a note or an e-mail. I love hearing how you are doing!
Another practical way to encourage me is through support. It would take 30 people at $25 dollars a month or 15 people at $50 dollars a month to help me reach the base amount of support in order for me to cover basic needs like groceries and rent. A missionary, like a soldier, needs those who make up the supply line. “As his share is who goes to battle, so shall his share be who stays by the baggage (the supply line)” (1 Sam 30:24).
Fundraising is a challenging task for many people, especially me. I am greatful for those of you who have decided to stand with me. Would you prayerfully consider how you can take part in encouraging me through taking part in the ministry at Black Forest Academy this year?
I will be returning the middle of August for my last year at BFA. I am excited to be returning for a third year to work with the students I have worked with over the last few years.
